A dry orgasm is when a man experiences climax without ejaculating semen.

  • It is a one form of anejaculation.
  • Anorgasmic enejaculation is the other form in which you cannot achieve orgasm or expel semen during sexual activity while awake.
  • It is also known as retrograde ejaculation.

 Normal Ejaculation involves 

  • Emission: Sperm mixes with seminal fluid in the urethra.
  • Ejaculation: Muscles contract, pushing semen out.
  • Orgasm: The pleasurable sensation that often accompanies ejaculation.

Types of dry orgasm

  1. Situational Dry Orgasm:Occurs in specific situations, such as during sexual intercourse but not during masturbation
  2. Total Dry Orgasm:No semen is released in any situation
  3. Retrograde Ejaculation: The main type of dry orgasm, where semen enters the bladder instead of exiting the penis.

Causes of dry orgasm 

  • Nerve damage: Conditions like diabetes, multiple sclerosis, or spinal cord injuries can damage the nerves that control ejaculation.
  • Prostate surgery: Procedures like transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) can affect the bladder neck and lead to retrograde ejaculation.
  • Medications: Some drugs, particularly those used to treat high blood pressure, prostate enlargement, or mood disorders, can interfere with normal ejaculation.
  • Congenital abnormalities: Some men are born with structural issues that affect the bladder neck or urethra.
  • Aging: As men get older, the muscles that control ejaculation may weaken.
